Join Twitter now, and watch them try to fix it

March 24th 2009 17:48
twitter

The rapid growth and popularity of social networking is these days almost entirely about Twitter, and there has never been a better time to join than right now when you can be part of a momentous period in Twitter history.

Yes, join now and witness, first hand, their attempt to fix it.

Folks are all atwitter at Twitter because their tweets are disappearing. I've had two tweets disappear myself, and I've only written nine.

This is a pretty desperate state of affairs for the hottest thing currently on the Internet. The heat is turning lukewarm by the day as they try, without success, to find the database gremlin which is making tweets disappear.

How they must be laughing at Facebook.

I know what you're saying, of course: you're looking at each other, and looking back at me, and raising your eyebrows, and asking, "What's a tweet?"

They are the messages that Twitterers send to their followers. Limit 140 characters. Millions of people every day ... what do you mean why? I have no idea.

But I have signed up and here are some of my tweets to date:
  • I need to write better on my blogs. All these really nice people are being driven to rudeness by my poorly written messages.
  • Isn't every Twitter tweet like a message in a bottle? Place in receptacle, stick full point firmly on the end, launch with a click. Wait.
  • I recognise my failings and work hard on them. The next thing I'm going to tackle is my coffee snobbery.
  • Just oiled Rowena's chain. It was overdue. She looks grateful.

I know, it's a mixed bunch of messages lacking coherence and any clear reason for existence. Which sums up Twitter for me, really, but I'm hanging in there until I find out what all the fuss is out. Rowena, by the way, is my rowing machine.

If you feel that your life would be immeasurably enhanced by regular exposure to such urbane wit and charm, or if you'd like another way to sling insults in my direction, come join me at Twitter. I'm Championcj there. We can have such a good time together tweeting about coffee and Rowena and stuff.

If they ever fix it.

Apparently it's an incredible marketing tool - one of the biggest customer service software apps has just added support for it. My Tweets tend to be "updated this blog", "updated that blog" and "eating pizza". Thrilling stuff.

I'm SpikeTheLobster on there, my usual handle.

I've found Twitter extraordinarily useful for my copywriting business. Visit my Small Business Owner blog in around three hours if you're curious. P.

Hi everyone

I joined Twitter a short while ago but haven't really done much with it. I'll have to jump back on and find you all. I am flirtychick.

I'll try again to work out what all the fuss is about.

I thought your Twitter dance card looked a little empty, Janet. Is it because you're flirting on the inside?

yes, I think you have all forced me into actually writing something now. It all seems rather silly but I will forge ahead. If anything, it wll teach me just what all the fuss is about.

I've started following people I don't actually know, except through their writing at Orble. Following people has scary connotations of stalking people in a way. Bu I guess you can always stop logging on if you're worried. I find it comforting that I can write odd stuff and never have to meet you all in person. I might have to blush.

Carolyn, there aren't any scary or weird people here. Meanwhile, I still can't find my Brylcreem. Doesn't anyone care?

I can't remember why you want you Brylcreem. But I do care, deeply. There's some people with odd ideas here, and at Twitter. I've got some weirdo who passionately cares about UFOs following me.

I'm still trying to figure out where to post my little memoir type story about the UFO I saw when I was a kid. I don't want to waste it for no monetary return. Maybe it will become a children's story some time.

Don't know. Any ideas?

I can't remember why I wanted Brylcreem either. I think Janet wanted some to clean her shoes with.

Can't answer the rest of your comment now because a flying saucer just landed in my backyard.

Chris, if you're bored with all the fussy crazy mess of Twitter and Facebook, then it's about time to back to the prehistoric moment with Plurk....

Hi Whitney - couldn't find anyone under the name goReptiles.

Hi Sam, I've had two marketers follow me and I've only been joined up for two days.

Hi Wilson, if Plurk (I love that name) is prehistoric, is must be as old as me.

Hi Britt, new friends are always needed
