There was a big crowd at the Cascades Female Factory in Hobart, Tasmania, on Saturday for the launch of the third in the Convict Lives series of books. The books each feature biographical stories of women who served time in the female convict prisons of Tasmania. To say they are real-life stories is to understate them. Raw life would be more accurate.
The books, researched and written by many contributors and published by the Convict Women’s Press in collaboration with Forty South Publishing, are a vivid, valuable insight into the grim days of early European settlement of Tasmania.
