The writer versus the blogger
August 30th 2008 04:08
I created this blog yesterday and have been debating with myself since what to write for my first post. Should I write about good writing or should I write about good blogging - the two themes planned for this blog? Or should I write about what I am seeing as the differences between the two?
It's a difficult decision, and the blogger and the writer within me were still wrestling when today's Orble statistics email arrived. They showed that, in the 18 hours since it was created, my words-worth blog had a hit count of five and was visited by two individual readers. This ranked it 2,080th out of 5,645 blogs in the Orble community.
All with nothing in it.
The blogger in me claimed an emphatic victory. The writer in me reached for the whiskey to help recover from the shock.
"But wait!" said the writer, turning mid-pour to look at the blogger. "Don't write me off - no pun intended - just yet. You may celebrate a few votes for nothing, but you will never get big numbers without good writing."
"I will get big numbers," the blogger retorted, "by good blogging. Now pass the bottle, if you please."
"Certainly," said the writer, "but this debate is to be continued."

That way you have the good blogging covered.
There is popular blogging and then there is good blogging. The two rarely match.
